Character: Marona
Age: 13
Canon: Phantom Brave
Canon Point: Post game.

Background: Marona is from a world known as Ivoire, a relatively low technology world where magic is fairly common. In this world people are frequently born with special abilities unique to them. Occasionally abilities would overlap however, and that was the case with Marona's parents. Both of them had the ability to see and interact with the ghosts of the dead, an unfortunate ability that earned them a bad reputation despite the fact they used it to help others, not hurt them. They had each other, and a single close friend that knew them as the kind people they were. And eventually, they had Marona as well.

For the first five years of her life, Marona lived a secluded but love-filled life with her parents and their friend, a man by the name of Ash. The trio made ends meet by working as 'Chromas', people who basically hired out the unique ability they were born with as a sort of mercenary. Even with their bad reputation, they still were able to find people who were willing to pay them, but eventually they took on a job that was too much for them. All three of them were killed, and if this had been most people, little Marona would have been left alone in the world. But with the last bit of strength in his body, Marona's father tried to save Ash, and partially succeeded. He didn't leave the world entirely, but instead 'lived ' on as a ghost.

The phantom of Ash would be Marona's only friend for the next 8 years. She was the only living thing left on the small island her family had once called home. Naturally, she was sad that her parents were gone, but she didn't grow up depressed or sad. With as much guidance as her ghostly friend could offer, she grew to be a bright and cheerful young girl. Eventually, she discovered that she had the same ability her parents had. And with that discovery came the rumors. Even though she was a child, people thought of her as a girl possessed by evil. She became known as the 'Possessed One' and people basically treated her like dirt. Despite everything, she held firmly to what her father had told her, that if she just showed her true self to enough people, they would eventually come around.

Without summarizing the events of the entire game, this eventually came true. No matter how cruelly she was treated, she just kept going forward with a smile on her face. She saved lives, including the life of a sickly girl named Castile who became her first true friend. She helped reunite someone with a long lost friend. She helped a pair of quarreling brothers realize that they stilled cared about each other despite making very different choices in life. She touched more and more people's lives and, eventually, went from being hated to literally having her own fan club. In the end, she found out that the monster that killed her parents was simply the pawn of an even more powerful one that had invaded her world in the past. Alongside all of her newfound friends and allies, she was able to drive both of them out of their world.

Personality: Despite having lived a relatively difficult life, it is difficult to imagine a person more open and friendly then Marona. She is vibrant, cheerful, pleasant, the sort of person that makes a great friend. She always tries to act politely, addressing people respectfully. She takes great pleasure in helping others, considering the warm and fuzzy feelings reward enough for going out of her way for someone. There is not an ounce of greed to be found in her. She'd give the clothes off of her back to someone if they needed them more then she did.

This makes her easy to get along with, but it also makes her easy to take advantage of. She is an innocent minded girl, never thinking that someone might be trying to trick her. She tends to automatically think the best of everyone, and is likely to try to justify their bad behavior for them. If she isn't paid in full for a job, she'll tell herself its just because they can't afford it. Of course even that innocence has its limits. Little things are brushed aside, but more serious crimes are too much even for her to ignore. She is a compassionate enough person to understand WHY a person might turn to theft, but that doesn't mean that she is just going to ignore a crime being committed.

She can be surprisingly serious-minded for a girl her age. Perhaps it was so many years living without another live person to talk to, but she is not the type to put things off for later, and no one could ever describe her as lazy. She is a hard worker, particularly when working for someone else. Having spent so long alone, and then finding out the world hated her for something outside of her control, whenever she is actually praised for a job well done, its like injecting her with pure happiness. This is part of why she puts her all into everything she does. That feeling of gratitude reminds her that people no longer hate her.  It also puts her into a chipper mood, though to be fair that is generally her default anyway.

It takes something serious to really put a damper on her normally good-natured personality. Little things are brushed aside and ignored, she is not the sort of person who tends to hold a grudge. But when something is really bothering her, its very difficult for her to hide it. She does a poor job of concealing when something is truly bothering her. She will attempt to not bother people with her worries,  as she doesn't want to be a bother to them. But she is no good at hiding when she is not in a good mood. She is the type who wears her heart on her sleeve, possessing a book of emotions that is easily read. If she seems happy, it is genuine. If she seems sad, it'll be obvious to everyone around her. And if she seems angry, it is because something really pushed her.

Anger is easily the rarest emotion for her to display. She is beyond slow to anger, always wanting to find a peaceful solution to any issue that might come up. If she actually displays that particular emotion it is for something serious. Someone has done something unforgivable. This is not to say she might not occasionally get a little annoyed at something. She does her absolute best to always keep a positive and friendly outlook towards like. So  she won't get angry if you steal the last cupcake. Burn down the bakery it came from? That is a much different matter! Even when angry, she still tends to attempt to be polite. Anger is such a foreign concept to her that she really doesn't know what to do with it.

Overall, she is a cute little bunny of a girl who wants nothing more then to be friends with as many people as she can. She has no grand schemes in life. She doesn't want to become rich, she has little use for fame. She appreciates the little things in life much more then the big. Time spent with genuine friends is much more valuable to her then a bar of solid gold.

Abilities: As a Chroma, Marona was born with an ability most people in her world don't have. Each chroma's ability is named after the color of energy it produces (thus the chroma, from chromatic). In Marona's case it was green, so is named Chartreuse Gale. It is this ability that allows her to see and interact with the spirits of the dead. A spirit that is hidden from most people is as plain as day to her, they would need to be particularly powerful to even hide from her. She can touch a spirit as if it was a living person without any problem. She can hear its voice when others might not be able to.

However, her interactions go far beyond this. The other half of her ability actually allows her to summon spirits, temporarily, back into the world of the living by anchoring their spirit to an inanimate object to form them a new body. The host object will change shape to resemble an exact duplicate of what the spirit looked like in life. This is not permanent and is actually rather short termed. How long it can be maintained varies from spirit to spirit, and puts a strain on Marona the more spirits she does this to at once, but is a matter of minutes rather then days.  She isn't going to plant a whole army into a field of stumps, only a small handful of phantoms can be maintained at the same time. Once a spirit is released, either by Marona cutting the bond, no longer being able to maintain it, or the host body being destroyed the item that was used to form the body will drop wherever the ghost was standing at the time. Barring abilities she just doesn't know about, there is no danger to the actual ghost, all that happens to them if their body is destroyed is they no longer have a physical body.

In addition to this, she has a selection of more traditional spells, both offensive and defensive in nature. While she is a great deal more skilled at spells that cure wounds then cause them, she does know both kinds. Her personality lends her to be better at the healing type, however.  She is also stronger then she appears. Far from superhuman, she is still able to hold items that look too heavy for her skinny little arms without much trouble. Not that this is particularly rare for anime-style characters!

Alignment: I am aligning her with Peromei, as it was her hope for a better future that kept her going in the more difficult parts of her life. At the same time, she also wanted to escape from the despair of her loneliness. More then anything else, those two emotions have had the biggest influence on her life so making this choice was pretty easy.

Other: I am not entirely sure of the rules on npcs, but I'd like to have access to at least a couple ghosties. The character isn't quite the same without them, though I will still want to app her if you rule that she can't have any. I understand you probably wouldn't want her summoning other intelligent characters, ones who could actually just be apped themselves, but there are monster classes in the game that don't have personalities of their own. If a few of them made the trip with her, she'd basically just be like a pokemon trainer who has all ghost types and instead of keeping them in balls, sticks their soul into the nearest loose object. Again, its not a deal breaker for me and I want to app even without them. I could offer some examples if that is necessary, but nothing in the game is some sort of world breaker class monster. They are mostly things like hell hounds (hell corgis to be exact!), small dragons, and stuff like that.

From last month's test drive: Prompt A has some emotions stuff. Happy Marona so bright its blinding!
